The video shows a Cape Town-headed Train 99 with only six carriages arriving at platform 1 at Nyanga Junction. Many people were unable to board because the carriages were already full. People sit on the roof and cling to the sides, front and back of the train. This is the new normal for daily commuters.

Dear Editor

This is what happened with our public transport. It is dangerous to travel to work and home.

On Monday 09 October 2017 at 5:10pm I fell out of the train as I were boarding. While I were getting into the train it started to drive and than I fell onto the platform. The train stopped where I fell, but the guard said nothing and it drove off again. Both of my knees were broken and it has still not healed after that incident. I noticed many occasions where the train didn't wait until the passengers were on board the train.

Dear Editor

It is common practice that trains depart while passengers are still boarding trains during rush hours. Trains also depart while doors are open. The latter happens at any time of the day and is a blatant violation of the ruling of the Constitutional Court (Mashongwa v PRASA [2015] ZACC 36).
