Judge Jodi Kollapen ruled that the failure of the state to provide textbooks to learners in Limpopo for the start of the school year was a violation of their Constitutional right to a basic education.

30 shacks burn down in Johannesburg
Thirty shacks burned down in Alexandra on Saturday night. There were no injuries. The fire’s cause is still unknown, but will be investigated.

A father accidently shot his 7-year-old daughter after mistaking her for an intruder. She was rushed to hospital, but died from the bullet wound to her head.

The Sunday Times has demanded the police hand over evidence proving its journalists accepted bribes. This is after allegations that a Sunday Times journalist accepted bribes to “place” a story about Zimbabweans.

Top Durban advocate Ngubane committed suicide. Ngubane was found in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head last Saturday. The reasons for his suicide are unknown.
