Answer to a question from a reader

I have eight cats that need to be sterilised. Where can I get my fur babies affordably sterilized?

The short answer

SPCA mobile units can transport your cats to hospital for sterilisation and return them to you.

The whole question

I have eight cats and they all need to be sterilized. I'm a single parent of three kids and love my cats dearly. I live in Mitchells Plain and our nearest PDSA does not do sterilization. i wanted to know if i can bring my fur babies to the Khayelitsha branch to have them sterilized at an affordable price?

The long answer

Thank you for your letter asking about taking your cats to the Khayelitsha branch of the PDSA to be sterilised.

There is actually no PDSA branch in Khayelitsha, but the SPCA has a mobile clinic service which visits Makhaza, Khayelitsha, at Shoprite Centre on Mondays from 14.00 to 15.30.

On Tuesdays the mobile clinic is at the Civic Centre in Westridge from 9.30 to 12.30, and from 14.00 to 15.30 in Eastridge, Figaro and Palestrina Rd.

These SPCA mobile units will transport your cats to hospital for sterilisation and return them to you on Friday between between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

You can contact them at 021 700 4145.

You can also take your cats to the PDSA hospital in Tarentaal Rd, Bridgetown, Athlone, where the standard fee for sterilisation is R70. You can contact them at 021 638 5134.
