Milano’s promsing new midfielder
Ganief Stellenboom is a 20 year-old striker from Salt River who has just moved from Blackpool in Salt River to Milano United in Grassy Park.
Milano is hoping to do well in the Nedbank Cup, South Africa’s premier soccer knockout tournament. The team got promoted to the National First Division last year and hopes to do well enough this year to make it to the Premier Soccer League.
GroundUp: What teams have you played for?
Stellenboom: Blackpool, Salt River Blackpool, Ajax CT, SRB ASD and currently Milano United.
GroundUp: When did you start your soccer career?
Stellenboom: I started playing at the age of six.
GroundUp: Tell me about your time at Ajax and how it was travelling?
Stellenboom: My time at Ajax was good as I’ve grown a lot as a player and also learned a lot, experiencing new things all the time. Travelling was the biggest highlight of my time at Ajax as we competed against European teams.
GroundUp: Who’s your Role model?
Stellenboom: Thulani Serero
GroundUp: How was your move to Milano?
Stellenboom: My move to Milano was easy as I saw it as a stepping stone, but a bit tough as I had to leave the team I grew up with. However I see it as a new chapter and make the most of it as you have to move on.
GroundUp: How do you feel about playing in the Nedbank Cup?
Stellenboom: I’m excited as we could get to play against the bigger teams should we qualify
GroundUp: What message would you give to the youth?
Stellenboom: Work hard at all times. In the end it pays off.
